The Beaufort Theatre is the principal theatre in Blaenau Gwent. It is located in Ebbw Vale. It is part of the Blaenau Gwent Venues which also includes, The Market Hall Cinema, Metropole Theatre and Abertillery Community Theatre. It has a 338 seater auditorium and also has a Ballroom. It is a procenium arched stage with an apron. It programmes professional theatre, music, contemporary dance and light entertainment. The theatre is also host to nine voluntary arts organisations who present their annual productions here. Many people may still remember the Theatre as it used to be: a cinema. It was converted back in the 1960s. The theatre is also the home of a ghost who supposedly haunts the backstage area and auditorium. Many people have seen the ghost or heard of him and once, chains were apparently heard being dragged up the aisle's of the auditorium. During the construction of the Ballroom, when they had to knock down the little row of houses on the site, one of the old ladies refused to move. Eventually when she did leave, and not on good terms, she placed a curse on whatever stood in place of her home. The theatre and Ballroom is also available for hire.
