Cockett is the name of an electoral ward, a community and a suburb in the City and County of Swansea, South Wales.

The electoral ward consists of some or all of the following areas: Cadle, Cwmdu, Coedweig, Gendros, Gors, Fforestfach, Cockett and Waunarlwydd, in the parliamentary constituency of Swansea West. The community does not have its own community council. The ward is bounded by Kingsbridge and Penderry to the north; Cwmbwrla to the east; Townhill to the south east; Sketty and Killay North to the south; and Gowerton to the west.

Districts of Cockett
Cockett

The suburb of Cockett is located about 1.5 miles north west from Swansea City Centre. The headquarters of Swansea Police is based here. The Dylan Thomas Community School is located in Cockett. It is mainly a residential area.

Fforest-fach
The suburb of Fforest-fach (or Fforestfach) lies immediately north of the suburb of Cockett. The area is well suited to light industry and out of town shopping due to its proximity to the M4 motorway and several dual carriageways. There is a significant industrial Estate in the area with a range of light industries. Famous names like Marks and Spencer, Walkers Crisps had factories in the area but they have now ceased their operations here, causing much concern to the local population about unemployment.

Fforest-fach is home to a busy out of town shopping Complex centred around Carmarthen Road. The shopping area to the north has existed since the 1970s and is now branded as "Pontarddulais Road Retail Park". The area to the south of Carmarthen Road, called Parc Fforest-Fach, has been developed more recently in the early millennium decade. It suffers from significant parking problems during peak hours. Some of the stores include Tesco Extra, Borders, Starbucks inside the borders store, Marks & Spencer, Boots, Argos, JJB Sports, Next, Clarks, Outfit, River Island, Currys Digital, The Carphone Warehouse, Pizza Hut and Thomson.

Out of town shopping complexes such as Parc Fforestfach in the west of Swansea have been blamed for the continued decline of the City Centre. Paradoxically in November 2006 a new Park and Ride scheme was introduced in Fforestfach to ferry shoppers into the heart of Swansea city centre.

Waunarlwydd
The suburb of Waunarlwydd (English: The Lord's Meadow) adjoins Fforest-fach and Cockett to the West. A rapidly growing mostly residential area Waunarlwydd is home to a large Aluminium Rolling Operation owned by the American Conglomerate Alcoa. Alcoa announced in November 2006 that it will close its Swansea factory by the end of March 2007, with the loss of hundreds of jobs.

TIMET, the worlds largest supplier of titanium metals is also a major employer in the village. The Waunarlydd mill is one of four European locations for the company.

Despite its ever expanding size the 'Village' as it is still referred to by its inhabitants boasts a small community feel. The local rugby team Waunarlwydd RFC, won promotion to the Welsh Premiership in 2005 and have provided several players to Welsh teams since the clubs inception in 1900.

The pronunciation of Waunarlwydd sounds (a bit) like "Wine are Lloyd" in English.
