Gilwern is a village in South East Wales. The name is translated from English as "the nook near the alder-grove".

Location
It is situated within the Llanelly parish ward of Monmouthshire County Council, four miles from the market town of Abergavenny.

Attractions
Gilwern stands on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The local area has a history of iron production and the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal, which flows through Gilwern, was built to transport coal and coke to service the Clydach ironworks.
