Llandaff North (Welsh: Gogledd Ystum Tâf) is a middle-class suburb located in the north of Cardiff, South Wales. It is also located directly north of Llandaff but is an electoral ward which falls within the wider parliamentary constituency of Cardiff North. This constituency is known as a key marginal and is one of a handful within the United Kingdom which is decisive in a British General Election. Being mainly middle-class and "swing voters" the residents of Llandaff North are of some interest to national politicians.

Llandaff North is quite a small and quiet residential area which is served by a number of village shops. The southern boundary of Llandaff North is formed by the River Taff which also separates Llandaff North from Llandaff. These two areas are linked by a road bridge which spans this river and which also provides a spectacular view of Llandaff Cathedral. Llandaff North means "north of the bend in the River Taff" and at this geographical bend you will also find a quite stunning waterfall and the base of Llandaff Rowing Club.

Llandaff Railway Station is based in Llandaff North and this branch line links both areas to the centre of Cardiff (to the east) and to the valleys (to the west). The branch line is also the northern boundary of Llandaff North which separates the area from other areas in the north of Cardiff.

History

Schools
Hawthorn Infant School (Hawthorn Rd East, Llandaff North) and Hawthorn Junior School (Hawthorn Rd West, Llandaff North) are two small state schools at the heart of the Llandaff North. The schools are very near to each other but are separated by village shops on Station Road.
Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf (Bridge Rd, Llandaff North) is a state secondary school based on the outskirts of Llandaff North. It is a Welsh language comprehensive school of non-denominational religion which serves some children from Llandaff North and from across south Wales.
Whitchurch High School (formerly Whitchurch Grammar School) is a state secondary school based in the Whitchurch area of Cardiff. It is an English language comprehensive school of non-denominational religion which serves the majority of state educated children in Llandaff North.
The Cathedral School is an English preparatory and secondary school based in the Llandaff area of Cardiff. It is an independent boarding and day school which has strong links with Llandaff Cathedral. Parents in Llandaff North wanting to educate their children privately (but locally) would send their children to this school. The school is by far the best in the locality and is also one of the most successful in South Wales.
