The National Roman Legion Museum located in Caerleon, near Newport, is one of the National Museums of Wales.

Caerleon was one of only three permanent fortresses in Roman Britain. The Museum lies inside what remains of the fortress, which includes the most complete amphitheatre in Britain and the only remains of a Roman Legionary barracks on view anywhere in Europe.

    Open 10 am�5 pm Monday�Saturday, 2 pm�5 pm Sunday.

     Physical Mobility

    • There are parking spaces 50 yards from the front of the museum down the adjacent street, none of these are designated for orange badge holders.
    • Entrance to the museum for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs is to the right of the front steps. There is a level entrance into the museum, through glass doors.
    • There is wheelchair access to The Gallery and the lower level of The Gallery via a ramp.
    • A wheelchair is available on request. Although this chair cannot be pre-booked and is provided on a first come first served basis, we will notify the Front Desk if an advance request is made.
    • Seating is available throughout The Gallery.

    Visually Impaired

    • There is a handling collection available on request.
    • Large print guide books are available free on loan. Please ask at the entrance.

    Hearing Impaired

    • The Gallery has a good standard of written material to support the collections.

    Learning Difficulties

    • The new Guidebook and floorplan have been designed so that the text is heavily supplemented by pictures and presents our collections and facilities in a comparatively simple manner.
