Pontrhydyfen is a village in south Wales. It is situated north of the village of Cwmafan in the Afan Valley, not far from the towns of Port Talbot and Neath. This former mining community is recognisable by two large distinctive 19th century bridges that span the valley: a viaduct ('the red bridge') and an aqueduct, now a pedestrian-only bridge, known locally as Y Bont Fawr (The Big Bridge). It was built by John Reynolds in 1825 initially to carry a tram-way and then a canal to supply water to a nearby iron works.

The village is famous for being the birth place of actor Richard Burton, Broadway star Ivor Emmanuel and international opera singer Rebecca Evans. Richard Burton Appreciation Society is based in the village.
